We're back home... and life is back to normal, whatever that means...
Oscar has been talking about the trip a lot. He keeps saying: "tampa, florida, avion grande, big plane, familia" and then he starts naming everyone off. He misses his family. He's learning right now about who is a Perez and who is a Cytron and who is a Dwyer and who is a Yates, etc., etc.
Sometimes he'll say, "papi...Perez!" and then "lolo...Perez!". Yesterday, he named off the whole Perez clan and then it started getting confusing, because hairs started getting split--who is really a "Perez" and who isn't? Christian told him that Lala wasn't a Perez! We had a lively debate about this. Oscar thinks she is and so do I. (Lala, I know you read this, so I hope you can weigh in on this issue.) Oscar already knows he's a Perez and a Cytron and a whole lot more (Perez, Cytron, Dwyer, Yates, Marcos, Mansell, Valdespino, Yablonofsky, Corcoran, O'Connell, Cooper, Redwine...and who knows what else).
And what's interesting is that he's just as interested in the family members that he hasn't seen as recently. He has a photo album that he looks through every day. For some strange reason, he is really fixated on Uncle Bill right now. Sometimes when he's frustrated with me, he just cries out "Uncle Bill." It's almost as if he has already figured out that he's one of the most reasonable members of the family and would come to his aid in difficult situations (he's a middle school counselor and the kids call him "Mr. Rogers" after all).
Lately we've been playing this game called "tiny baby." I'll pick Oscar up and hold him and rock him like a little baby and he'll get really quiet and snuggle up and say "I'm a tiny baby." Sometimes he'll stay like this for a while. We even made up a song about it that Christian plays on the piano. Oscar loves it. So do I. It makes some of the crazy toddler stuff he does a lot easier to take.
Whenever Christian goes out of the house he says "papi toca el bajo, boom, boom ,boom" (papi's playing the bass). For some reason, he thinks that's the only reason Christian leaves the house.
He's really enjoying his music class now. He's fascinated with the other kids and loves the songs and his teacher "Miss Silvia." She's from Brazil and she sings in several different languages.
Every night before Oscar goes to sleep we sing "duermete mi nino" and "mimi-time" and sometimes "nanita nana." He likes to listen to my heart beat and likes me to listen to his (he says "corazon, fuerte, grande." "heart, strong, big"). We put him down in his crib with his gator, bunny, kangaroo, and fuzzy blanky. He says "te amo mucho, mucho" (I love you very, very much) and then says "bye-bye mama" and "bye-bye papi" and rolls right over and goes to sleep.
